Nguyen Son Thu

Chairman of the Vietnamesisch-Deutschen Brücke e.V. (VDB Group), which focused on promoting sports and cultural ties between the Vietnamese and German communities. Under his leadership, VDB Sport actively organizes and supports events in football, badminton, billiards, and chess. The club aims to strengthen community connections through both competitive and recreational sports activities. Son Thu’s role in fostering these cultural and athletic exchanges highlights his commitment to enriching the Vietnamese diaspora’s social life in Germany.

Our common goal is to give you a better understanding of Vietnamese culture through our commitment, to create an information and communication platform for cultural, economic and social areas and to encourage you to engage in dialogue with us and with each other

Club History

Founded in 2013 by Son Thu Nguyen and others, VDB e.V. focuses on fostering cultural understanding between Vietnamese and Germans in Berlin. In response to community interest in sports, VDB Sport e.V. was established in 2016, offering various sports like football, basketball, badminton, and chess to promote interaction and cultural exchange.

Nguyen highlights the importance of sports in integrating Vietnamese migrants, who often face isolation within their community. Future expansions for VDB Sport include classes in swimming, Pilates, dance, and yoga, aimed at both the Vietnamese community and all Berlin residents. Currently, around 100 participants, primarily students, engage in these activities.

The integration of the Vietnamese community has historically faced challenges, especially during the DDR era when local interactions were limited. Recent advancements show progress, though representation in organized sports remains low. IdS Berlin is collaborating with VDB Sport to enhance integration efforts and assist in becoming an official support club, having already achieved successes in events like the International Eastercup.
